EU Higher Education Cooperation – Erasmus+

The EU education programme Erasmus+ plays a vital role in the internationalisation of higher education institutions in Germany. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), DAAD acts as the National Agency for EU Higher Education Cooperation (NA DAAD) in Germany.
As a department within the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD) we have been serving as the National Agency for EU Higher Education Cooperation in the Erasmus+ Programme and its predecessors since 1987, making us one of the most experienced agencies in Europe. We furthermore support higher education institutions in developing and advancing their internationalisation strategies.
Erasmus+ plays a crucial role in the internationalisation of German higher education institutions. The current funding options in the Erasmus+ Programme effectively support academic cooperation, for example by promoting mobility of students and academic staff, but also through strategic partnerships, capacity-building projects, Erasmus Mundus joint master courses, knowledge alliances and the Jean Monnet Activities. Cooperation through all education sectors, closely linked to policy stakeholders on national and international levels is part of Erasmus+ policy support, which aims at strengthening the effectiveness and efficiency of European educational systems.
As National Agency within DAAD, our aim is to ensure that German higher education institutions are appropriately represented in all Erasmus+ key actions and to highlight synergies with complementary national funding programmes. These objectives are supported locally by our .
Since 2006 we have been applying an ISO-certified quality management system to assure the quality of our work in particular with regard to the administration of the Erasmus+ Programme.
