News from the BIRD project

  • Two men and a woman in front of a window

At the invitation of the Finnish CSC - IT Center for Science, an exchange meeting was held in Helsinki on 20 March with SURF (Netherlands), Sikt (Norway), Digivisio2030 (Finland) and the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (Germany). The focus was on the national projects Digivisio2030 and Npuls for digital education infrastructures in the higher education sector as well as the transnational exchange of experiences. Hendrik Gessner, Holger Zimmermann and Kathleen Clancy took part on behalf of BIRD and moderated a workshop on digital identities and microcredentials. Various aspects were discussed in small groups, including programme management and cooperation with education ministries, change management in the context of digital education projects and the development of a national infrastructure for data sharing. The very early establishment of a "Code of Conduct" on common rules of cooperation in both projects and the active and regular involvement of the respective university rectors was remarkable. The following day, Hendrik and Kathleen visited Aalto University  to find out more about the digital ecosystem there.

LEARNTEC, the trade fair for digital learning, will take place in Karlsruhe from 4 to 6 June 2024. Visit us at stand I19 in hall 2, where BIRD will be presented together with "Mein Bildungsraum".

On behalf of the BMBF, BIRD is developing the first prototype of a digital networking infrastructure for education in Germany. Get to know the projects, their goals and functionalities - and take a look with us at the next steps in the development towards opening up the networking infrastructure to all interested parties. You can expect presentations on the topic of digital education, a film, the opportunity to try out prototype application scenarios and many personal discussions!

Further information about the fair and the programme can be found here.
