DAAD promotes internationalisation of teacher training programmes

International Teacher Training Programme

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is supporting 36 projects at German universities for the internationalisation of teacher training. The projects were selected in the current call for proposals of the DAAD programme "Lehramt.International". They will receive a total of around 20 million euros in funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) until 2029.

Since 2019, the DAAD's "Lehramt.International" programme has been funding the further development of study programmes for the internationalisation of teacher training. The newly selected projects will now enter a funding round from 2025 to 2029 in order to further strengthen and structurally anchor internationalisation in teacher training at German universities.

One example of this is the Justus Liebig University Giessen: The pilot project "International Mobility with Partners Abroad for Culturally Competent Teachers" links the internationalisation of teacher training with an interreligious dialogue in primary school education - including the topics of inclusion, justice and peace education. Karlsruhe University of Education is organising its "Get Ready for Global Teaching!" project together with seven partner institutions from all over the world. The project ties in with the internationalisation strategy of the Karlsruhe University of Education and is intended to contribute to increasing the international mobility of students.

The projects of the following universities and teacher training colleges will now be funded under the programme until 2029:
