Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The range of courses in the subject of Religious Studies is unique in terms of scope at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). Hardly any other German-language university offers as broad a range of courses in Religious Studies as RUB. Religious Studies students at RUB are introduced to the interdisciplinary research area of religion and trained in social science, historical and philological theories and methods. This gives them a comprehensive insight into the entire field of social sciences and humanities.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Master's degree course is taught in English. Most of the students enrolled in the Master's programme come from abroad. The Ceres has numerous collaborations with other universities worldwide. Spending one or two semesters abroad is generally welcomed and encouraged.

Special features regarding the equipment

The Centre for Religious Studies (Ceres) is located in a modern building off campus with good transport links and good technical equipment.

Special features regarding research activities

The Centre for Religious Studies (Ceres) is home to a research landscape that is unparalleled among other institutes in the social sciences and humanities. Numerous third-party-funded research projects, such as the Collaborative Research Centre "Metaphors of Religion" or the ERC projects "Jews East" and "Buddhist Roads", are based at Ceres. There is a great deal of expertise in the field of third-party fundraising.

Other special features

Due to the international Master's degree, the cultural diversity in the Ceres is particularly great. Open-mindedness and tolerance are embraced here and are at the same time essential for the success of teaching.
