Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

By setting up a college, the difficult transition from school to a demanding course of study is facilitated. In several phases, interested students are approached at school with appropriate projects, existing knowledge gaps are remedied in preparatory courses on mathematics and mechanics, and later students are supervised in individual events. Introductory projects bring together experimental procedures, analytical observation and numerical implementation. The degree courses offer attractive mandatory elective options and practical elements.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Since the proportion of foreign students at BTU is particularly high, foreign students from higher semesters are also used in preparation courses and exercises to remove language barriers. The international degree courses Power Engineering and Hybrid Electric Propulsion Technology offer an interesting range of Master's degree programmes taught in English.

Special features regarding the equipment

The information, communication and media centre (IKMZ) of the BTU offers extensive digital services with access to e-books, specialist databases, online publications, standards and patent catalogues, audio-visual archives and much more. Engineers also have access to all necessary software licences.

Special features regarding research and development

Current research topics are presented during lectures, which keeps the students informed and attracts them to externally funded projects. The lightweight construction research centre, the energy centre and the equipment centre for flow research as well as the innovation centre offer students interesting opportunities for research projects. The faculty offers modern laboratories and equipment, e.g. in metal forming, joining and welding technology, engine technology, automation technology, vehicle technology, power plant and grid control technology and drive technology.

Other special features

Joint interdisciplinary and intercultural team work is encouraged in the interdisciplinary studies. Project modules are practice-oriented interfaces between several chairs and teach a wide range of subjects from the initial product idea to the design draft or the corporate concept. Student theses can often be carried out with reference to practical projects in industry.
