Focus on Institutional Economics (economic analysis of formal and informal regulations); personal contact between lecturers and students; new research content is integrated into teaching; promotion of academic writing/presenting through small group seminars in the Bachelor's and Master's course; numerous key qualification modules and inter-disciplinary modules; International environment thanks to Master's programmes taught in English and international professors; academic acceptance of different academic approaches; inter-disciplinary approach, e.g. in special Master's programmes.

The faculty uses the electronic learning platform ILIAS; three computer clusters, one of which is also used for teaching; its own library with student workstations (there is also the university library); a wide range of electronic journals; online data access to economic data for teaching and research purposes; good software facilities (in particular econometrics programmes); WiFi access in many buildings.

Special features regarding research activities

Focus on issues of institutional economics, with all Economics professors in Marburg conducting research in this field; internal research collaboration as part of the "Marburg Centre for Institutional Economics". This examines, among other things, what determines the framework of action for economic actors and how they react to changes in the framework of action. In particular, the focus is also on the interaction between formal and informal institutions and norms on the behaviour of economic actors. A focus on issues of economic sustainability is currently being established.

The "Marburg Institute for Innovation Research and Start-Up Support" is affiliated with the faculty and offers start-up support, innovation research & advice, a start-up exchange, workshops/training, networking

Other special features

New research and teaching focus on economic aspects of sustainability (three professorships focus specifically on this topic). Institutionalised promotion of women and equality in the faculty and the university, Anti-Discrimination Office at university level, Green Office (empowerment and networking office for greater sustainability), conflict and legal advice
