Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

All degree courses of the faculty are characterised by a large number of optional additional subjects in which the subject matter is intensively practised in small groups. State-of-the-art mechanical engineering, metrology and IT laboratories are available to students for the practical teaching units.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The Master's degree course is characterised by its practical computer exercises for all relevant software tools of the product development process, without neglecting theory and scientific working methods.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In addition to the faculty's traditional degree courses taught in German, a separate degree course taught in English on Mechatronics has been set up for international and national students. In addition, the faculty is involved in the recently founded, transnational exchange programme HEROES – Higher Education for Resilience-Oriented and Empowered Societies.

Special features regarding the equipment

The equipment of the faculty's laboratories ranges from devices for comprehensive material analysis such as differential thermoanalysis or scanning electron microscopy to 3D printers, laser cutting systems, collaborative robots, networked machining centres, a high-resolution 3D measuring machine and an X-ray CT scanner from the Fraunhofer Application Centre for CT in Metrology (CTMT).

Special features regarding research and development

The faculty is affiliated with two technology campuses that conduct fundamentals research and service research in the field of plastics engineering, material analysis and material simulation. Doctoral students and research assistants from this Technology Campus are regularly involved in teaching to report on the latest technologies.

Other special features

The faculty aims to focus its attention on the topic of sustainability and the responsibility of engineers. Therefore, a Bachelor's degree course is currently being set up to address product and process design in the circular economy. In addition, the faculty is working on a concept for a "Repair Café" run by students and a "Library of Things" in cooperation with the university's library.
