It provides students with the opportunity of specialising in the areas of Gender Studies and Media Studies.

Target group

Graduates of a professionally qualifying certificate of academic degree with a minimum grade of at least 2.7 in the areas of American Studies, British Studies or Anglophone Studies or a certificate of academic degree acquired at a university or equivalent in the Federal Republic of Germany or abroad and recognised as equivalent to a literary-culturally oriented degree course.

Annotation

Allgemeines: Der englischsprachige Masterstudiengang „North American Studies“ beschäftigt sich mit den komplexen Literaturen und Kulturen Nordamerikas, vor allem der USA und Kanadas, aber auch der Karibik und Lateinamerikas und leistet interdisziplinäre Lehre und Forschungsarbeit. Zentrale Untersuchungsaspekte sind die facettenreiche Interkulturalität der jeweiligen Länder, die mit Hilfe von neu entwickelten Methoden und Disziplinen, u.a. auch nationen- und grenzüberschreitend, analysiert werden. Neben der Literatur erhältst du Einblicke in kulturelle Phänomene wie z.B. TV-Serien, Filme, Bilddarstellungen, Musik, aber auch in politische und historische Entwicklungen. Schwerpunkte: Studierende lernen zusätzlich die Perspektiven der Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies und Media Studies kennen.

Admission requirements

At least 30 CP should have been obtained in the literary-cultural field, including at least 15 CP for North American specific content. If the content specific to North America does not appear from the certificate or the transcript of records, the applicant must prove this in an appropriate manner.
