Annotation

The two-year Master's degree course aims to enable students to deal scientifically with the objects of European-Western music history: with the aesthetic objects themselves, their institutional, cultural context, the formation of historical theory and - not least - with the historical changeability of what is considered music and what is considered musical art. This is primarily undertaken in problem- and case-oriented courses that aim to link research and teaching. The Marburg Institute focuses on older music history up to the beginning of the 17th century and music history from the 18th to the early 20th century.
