Annotation

General information: In view of current events, the historical dimensions of the economy are becoming increasingly important. The Master’s degree programme "European Economic and Social History" is dedicated to this development and combines the systematic approach of economics with the historical approach of history. With a high level of theoretical and analytical rigour, the course aims to teach an understanding of economic and social development as well as interdependencies with politics, technology and institutions at the levels of actors, structures and processes. In addition, the programme can include a large practical component, as a six-month work placement can be integrated into the course plan. This not only allows students to explore future career fields, but also puts them in contact with potential employers. Research focuses: The Master’s degree programme in "European Economic and Social History" imparts knowledge of the economic and social upheavals in the ancient world, the Middle Ages and the modern age. You will not find this cross-epochal concept anywhere else. It can be studied with a focus on both research and practice and thus prepares students for either academic or application-focused careers. The course offers students the valuable opportunity to complete a work placement semester in business, which is facilitated by the department’s good contacts. The range of courses and the flexible study conditions offer numerous opportunities for individual specialisation.
