Annotation
The Master’s degree course in Ensemble Conducting New Music is aimed at advanced, experienced conducting students with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or instrumentalists with conducting experience who want to focus on the special challenges facing music in the 20th and 21st century. Key areas include the development of an extended, adaptable conducting technique, stylistic flexibility and the development of an overview of the very diverse repertoire. Students’ insights into instrumentation are deepened and their sensitivity to new scores is refined in individual composition lessons. In addition, the university’s electronic studio and the conducting classes of Prof. Grün and Prof. Kamioka are open to broaden students’ perspectives. Students gain practical experience in close contact with the composition class and the instrumentalists. The degree programme regularly cooperates with the Saxon Wind Philharmonic, Sian Edwards’ conducting class at the Royal Academy of Music London, the European Academy of the Arts in Montepulciano and various guest ensembles.
