In the research group "Data-based Software Engineering Methods and Tools" (ENG) at the Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISSE) at Technische Universität Clausthal, we offer a position as

Research Associate / PhD student in the field of Automotive Software Systems Development

(in case of fulfilment of the personal requirements: E 13 TV-L)

This position is a full-time position for an initial period of up to 3 years. The position is basically suitable for part-time work.

Are you looking for an environment in which you can work on exciting research topics in software engineering and actively shape the future? Then you've come to the right place at ISSE in the ENG research group!

Modern software systems are highly complex and have a long life span. Enormous amounts of data are generated over time during the engineering of such systems. In our ENG research group, we develop AI-based methods and tools based on this data, e.g., to make development decisions partially to completely automatically. Further research areas of our group are the abstraction of software systems, software architectures, as well as software development for embedded systems in the automotive sector.

What awaits you with us:

Hardware-in-the-loop simulation has been recommended by ISO 26262 as a safe, reliable and realistic test method for automotive software system development. However, despite its superiority compared to real test drives and non-real-time simulation methods, conducting test activities is dependent on expert knowledge, which has significant drawbacks in terms of cost, effort and time. Therefore, innovative approaches are required to overcome the challenges through the adoption of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

Your tasks:

  • Work on an interdisciplinary research project on automotive software engineering with a focus on methods, processes and tools of safety and reliability evaluation.
  • Support real development projects in the automotive industry as a case study from a safety and reliability perspective.
  • Design and implement prototypes for these approaches.
  • Publish the results at national and international conferences.
  • Support us in lectures and supervise students in their projects and theses.

Your profile:

  • Master's degree in computer science, mechatronics, automotive engineering or a related field of study.
  • Interest in automotive software engineering and embedded systems.
  • Interest in scientific work within the framework of a doctorate.
  • In-depth programming knowledge in e.g. C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Have an above-average degree of initiative as well as a responsible, structured way of working and a quick grasp of things.
  • Proficient in German and English, in spoken and written form.

Knowledge in the following areas is desirable:

  • Experience and/or previous knowledge in the areas of software testing and model-based development.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and testing safety-relevant systems
  • Data enthusiast with background in data science and machine learning techniques
  • Knowledge in the field of virtual development and simulation-based testing.
