In the Faculty of Science at the Department of Physics – Theoretical Materials Physics – the following position is to be filled as soon as possible
Research Assistant (f/m/d)
(Salary level according to 13 TV-L) with 75 % of the regular working hours. This is a qualification position within the meaning of the German Act on Fixed-Term Research Employment Contracts for Academic Staff (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz “WissZeitVG”), which serves to promote a doctoral procedure in the field of theoretical materials physics. The position is, depending on the qualification achieved to date, initially limited for a period of three years.
Duties and responsibilities:
The advertised position involves the theoretical and numerical modelling of bismuth surfaces in close collaboration with an experimental group in the Department of Chemistry. The aim is to use atomistic simulations to develop a fundamental understanding of the adsorption, structure, defect formation and spectroscopic signatures of organically functionalized bismuth electrodes.
Recruitment requirements:
- A completed or nearly completed Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field
- In-depth knowledge of atomistic simulation methods, such as density functional theory
- Teaching duties amounting to approximately 3 contact hours per week
