Description

Description

Fully funded PhD positions in advanced photon science

The International Max Planck Research School on Advanced Photon Science (IMPRS-APS) is opening new PhD positions.

Program overview: The IMPRS-APS is established at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics  in collaboration with the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the Vienna Institute of Technology (VUT), and the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz). The members of IMPRS-APS pursue forefront research on advancing light sources and employing them for gaining deeper insight into the microscopic structure and dynamics of matter, as well as for biomedical applications.

Research areas: Doctoral candidates will have the opportunity to conduct research at the forefront of ultrafast science, exploring phenomena on timescales ranging from femtoseconds to attoseconds. This includes investigating the dynamics of molecules using advanced spectroscopic techniques, developing and applying machine learning approaches, advancing precision-spectroscopy experiments, and investigating light-controlled electron motion in solids.

Education and training: The IMPRS-APS program offers a structured framework within which students are not only supported in performing excellent research, but also in their education in the field of photonics and related subjects, such as quantum optics, laser physics, attosecond physics, and medical physics. The program also includes interdisciplinary training (soft skills), contact with industry, and is embedded in an international and interdisciplinary environment with many opportunities for exchange.

Eligibility criteria: Applicants must have a master’s degree (or equivalent) before they start the PhD program.

Application process: Please use our online application portal:
https://www.application.imprs-aps.mpg.de/public. After pre-selection, a few candidates will be invited to visit Garching to participate in an interview round scheduled for March 28, 2025.
The deadline for applications is January 31, 2025.

Funding and benefits: All PhD positions are fully funded, and there are no tuition fees.

We welcome talented and motivated students interested in the above research areas to apply!
