Description

Description

The Class of Language Education within the Graduate School Language & Literature at LMU Munich offers a research-oriented and interdisciplinary doctoral program drawing on the expertise of all subject didactics represented at the Faculty of Languages and Literatures. Professors in German and English didactics, as well as in the didactics of Romance and Classical languages, represent a wide range of theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, and links to educational practice. The interdisciplinary course program focuses on the processes and outcomes of teaching and learning language, literature, and culture in first, second, and foreign languages, both in school and out-of-school contexts. Doctoral projects may address historical, theoretical, or empirical questions in the fields of language, literature, or media didactics, as well as research on teaching and learning.

The Class of Language Education (Graduate School Language & Literature, LMU Munich) invites applications for one DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP) scholarship and several regular PhD positions (without funding) starting in the winter semester 2026/27.
The DAAD scholarship runs for up to four years: https://www.daad.de/en/information-services-for-higher-education-institutions/further-information-on-daad-programmes/gssp/

Doctoral candidates who are admitted but not awarded a scholarship will receive active support in applying for external doctoral funding.

Application deadline: April 15, 2026
