Description
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences – Department of Chemistry Research fellow (m/f/d) in the field of bioorganic chemistry with expected 65 % part-time employment – E13 TV-L HU (third party funding until 31.12.2028)
Activities and responsibilities:
We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate for a PhD thesis in bioorganic chemistry, focusing on the chemical synthesis of peptides using solid phase synthesis, the development of methods for labeling glycan cell surface molecules with viscosity-responsive fluorescent dyes, and conducting bioassays and cell studies. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge science in bioorganic chemistry and cell biology. It will involve the use of techniques to synthesize and optimize fluorescent dyes that respond to changes in viscosity and represents an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic research environment at the chemistry-biology interface. The position also includes tasks for the scientific qualification (doctorate). If you are passionate about research and eager to develop your scientific expertise, we encourage you to apply!
Requirements:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in organic/bioorganic chemistry and a keen interest in applying these skills to biological questions. This includes:
- Completed scientific degree in the field of chemistry bioorganic chemistry chemical biology, or molecular biochemistry (master or equivalent),
- Training in bioorganic synthesis, with theoretical and practical experience in the fundamentals of peptide synthesis chemistry (SPPS)
- Knowledge of bio assays
- Practical experience in fluorescence imaging is preferred
- Excellent English, both written and spoken.
Please send your application (including motivation letter, CV and relevant certificates) until 17.01.2024, stating the reference number DR/158/24 to Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Oliver Seitz (located: Brook-Taylor-Str 2, 12489 Berlin), Unter den Linden 6, 10099 Berlin or preferably in electronic form as a single PDF file to seitzlab at chemie.hu-berlin.de.
The Humboldt-University Berlin is seeking to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching, and specifically encourages qualified female scholars to apply. Severely disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be given preferential consideration. People with an immigration history are specifically encouraged to apply. Since we will not return your documents, please submit copies in the application only.
