The Institute for Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research is dedicated to the study of materials and their nanostructures that can be considered for future applications in information technology and are based on electrical, magnetic or optical functionalities.

The Group Ion Induced Nanostructures is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) Application of ion beams for donor-spin-qubits. 

Your tasks

  • Isotope enrichment of silicon 28 using ion beams
  • Operating focused ion beam and scanning electron microscopes
  • Fabrication and Optimisation of liquid metal ion sources
  • Perform sample characterisation or organise it through 3rd parties
  • Evaluation, interpretation and publication of scientific data
  • Cooperation with partners in Germany and in other European countries
  • Presentation of the research results on national and international meetings

Your profile

  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of Physics, Material Science, Natural Science or related
  • Experiences in one or several of the following areas: Ion beam physics, focused ion beams, semiconductor technology, electron microscopy, vacuum, nanotechnology, quantum computing
  • Very good English language skills (spoken and written)
