The Institute for Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research is dedicated to the study of materials and their nanostructures that can be considered for future applications in information technology and are based on electrical, magnetic or optical functionalities.

The Group Ferroic materials, films and devices is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) for thermoelastic harvesting of low grade waste heat with shape memory alloys. 

Your tasks

  • You should work interdisciplinary at the interface of engineering, physics and materials science
  • Your thesis is embeded in a team working on ferroic materials, films and devices
  • Your task is to design, simulate, construct and test novel thermoelastic generators with improved efficency and power density

Your profile

  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of Engineering, Physics, Material Science or related field
  • Knowledge in the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering, thermodynamics and functional materials are beneficial
  • English proficiency is required at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses and write scientific articles and a final thesis
  • Experience in CAD, FEM simulation and Labview are helpful
