Foreign language center and courses

There is a foreign language centre. Languages offered: English, French, German as a foreign language, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Arabic, Dutch. Other universities’ language offers for students of all departments (language centres); students at RUB can typically attend and receive credit for these courses.

Special features regarding university sports

The university offers its own sports programme. Students attending the institution can participate in the sports programme of the TU Dortmund, University of Duisburg-Essen (with the status of being a student at another higher education institution.) Some courses are free of charge, some subject to fees. University-owned 1,100 square meter gym within walking distance of the main station; During winter semester 2019/20 before the pandemic began, offer of more than 490 courses per week in 95 sports; large diving sports department; Cooperation with other sports operators to offer golf, inline skating, tennis (indoor), SUP; University’s own artificial-turf pitch. During the pandemic, development of a diverse livestreaming offer and on-demand formats. The programme is open to: Hochschule für Gesundheit (hsg), Ev. FH Bochum, TH Bochum, Bochum University of Applied Sciences, EBZ Business School. Sports: Wide range of ball and team sports (some suitable for wheelchair users), dancing/dance sports, martial arts, strength/fitness, yoga types, equipment training, gymnastics, climbing, running, cycling sports, health courses (pilates, back fit), swimming, diving sports, incl. underwater rugby
