Further information provided by the department

Special features regarding teaching

Because the department is made up of the institutes for Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, interdisciplinary projects have a high priority. Students can choose between 2 different specialisations. In general, the teaching content has a lot of practical relevance. Because of the small number of students in the individual modules, there is a close relationship between teaching staff and students. The good access to rooms for individual study and the green campus are very popular with students.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Department is actively involved in the Erasmus programme. Most foreign students from outside the EU come from Jordan and China as a result of the consortium with the German-Jordanian University in Amman (Jordan) as well as the university's membership in the consortium of the German higher education institutions Hefei (DHH).

Special features regarding the equipment

The university is relatively young (founded after German Reunification) and the laboratory equipment is therefore state-of-the-art. The institute’s high-voltage and high-current laboratory as well as other industrial laboratories warrant special mention.

Special features regarding research and development

In the field of electrical and information technology, research is done in the fields of Conventional and Renewable Energy Supply, Wired and Wireless Communication as well as Industry Automation including IT Security. In addition to activities in the context of Industry 4.0 and smart automation, theoretical and practical questions of electromobility, sustainability and artificial intelligence are increasingly being addressed.

Support for founders

The university operates a technology and knowledge transfer centre. The ego.-Inkubatoren start-up programmes of the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences create the prerequisites for company start-ups through: Supervision by scientific staff and professors; Infrastructure with state-of-the-art equipment technology; Concept development within the team and support in all questions and concerns related to your own business ideas; Collaboration with other start-up programmes and further measures for academic business start-ups

Other special features

The institute has close links to all departments of the university, both in teaching and research. The courses were expanded through addition of a new degree course in human-technology interaction. When it comes to the re-accreditation of degree courses, much value is placed on different options and specialisations. The institute actively recruits students through its "Rent-a-Prof" programme, which promotes MINT courses in schools and invites pupils to visit the institute and its laboratories. The university was recently voted the most beautiful campus in Germany.
