Special features regarding teaching

Expert teaching of comprehensive, broad-ranging principles in order to provide the general basis that enables any specialisation to be chosen without having a purely subject-specific orientation. Students benefit from the strong ties with other faculties/subjects (in particular Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, as well as cooperation with local research institutions (PTB, HZI, DLR, NFF)); intensive help with orientation right from the start of studies; own student advice and counselling office in the department, with the professor as mentor (sign of quality); attractive specialisation options can be intensified in the MSc; The BSc. provides a professional qualification.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Highly international research; diverse range of research partners abroad with exchange of expertise and opportunity to work directly on projects (primarily in the Master's degree). Close dovetailing with internat. partners permits entry to the international labour market. Diverse exchange programmes allow for semesters abroad. High proportion of international students (more than 30 percent)

Special features regarding the equipment

Excellent laboratory and equipment resources; various large-scale research facilities; Several research centres with additional state-of-the-art, top class research equipment. New ‘Laboratory for Emerging Nanomaterials’ (LENA) research centre; Due to close links with local large-scale research establishments, there is the opportunity to share other excellent research facilities (PTB, DLR, HZI).

Special features regarding research activities

Top research at the institutes – electrical engineering at the TU Braunschweig is involved in three Clusters of Excellence of the excellence initiative of the federal government and the federal states from 2019 - this means excellent funding in the coming years; Research alliance with LUH and PTB/ DLR; High level of acceptance of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (EIT) in public research promotion institutions (national/international); notable ratio of third-party funding (repeated for more than 30 years); approx. 70% publicly reviewed funds and approx. 30% industry funding. EIT Part of the TU Research Focus Metrology, City of the Future, Mobility

Support for founders

The Technology Transfer Office supports interested young scientists as potential founders of start-ups, e.g. through coaching or when applying for start-up funding for the promotion of innovative, technology-oriented start-up projects or knowledge-based services. The Entrepreneurship Hub conveys the expertise and methods for business-model innovation, accompanying and supporting the start-up process, creating the interface between teaching, research, the business community and society, and strengthening a lively and interdisciplinary university start-up culture.

Other special features

Very close cooperation with the PTB ("Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt" – the German national metrology institute, from 2015 joint appointments, joint graduate schools, training as well as joint junior researcher groups); Participation in interdisciplinary research centres - including as part of joint sponsorships with industry (Nds. Vehicle research, Laboratory for Emerging Nanomaterials); Many international (M.Sc.) students and research assistants.
