Special features regarding teaching

The Cottbus model means that Civil Engineering is closely interlinked with Architecture and Town and Regional Planning. Joint project study means that the students have a strong introduction to future cooperation partners in the construction industry.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The degree course offers a large number of cooperation partners for a stay abroad and international exchange. Civil Engineering has an international orientation thanks to a wide range of individual contacts, the EUNICE network and the research training group on ‘Cultural and technical values of historic buildings’ sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Special features regarding the equipment

The intensive exchange between the faculty and the academic institution Materials Testing Institute University of Stuttgart (MPA Stuttgart, Otto-Graf-Institut (FMPA)) in the context of research projects means that the faculty has extensive equipment in the field of Civil Engineering. In addition, the faculty has a wide range of research technology, with the research laboratories in the field of Construction Materials and with the cooperation with other faculty institutes (Panta Rhei gGmbH research centre for lightweight construction materials).

Special features regarding research activities

Points of research focus: Digital design and planning processes, modelling and production, cultural heritage and climate-friendly construction. Junior academics undertake their doctorates with classic one-to-one support and in structured doctoral programmes, such as in the "Cultural and Technological Significance of Historic Buildings" Research Training Group of the German Research Foundation (DFG). The discussion groups link the disciplines together and produce synergy effects. The use of guest lecturers from other disciplines means that the expertise of the subject areas undertaking research in the graduate school is taught in an interdisciplinary manner.
