Special features regarding teaching

Project Management in Construction prepares students for project management tasks in larger construction projects with a high level of complexity. The department is internationally oriented. There are annual workshops held on urban and architectural topics in Amsterdam, Istanbul and Berlin in collaboration with the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts Istanbul. In addition, the department organises interdisciplinary exhibitions, subject-related discussions and conferences at the Minden Campus. Excursions are organised for students and they have the opportunity to participate in exhibitions.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The partnerships with the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts Istanbul are very well-received by the students. At the Minden Campus, there are regular informational events for students about "Work placements and studies abroad" by the Foreign Students Office. The International Office in Bielefeld is open to all students for guidance on short visits, work placements and foreign programmes.

Special features regarding the equipment

Laboratory for soil mechanics; Laboratory for Building Materials Testing and Building Materials Technology; Laboratory for Hydromechanics and Hydraulic Engineering; Laboratory for structural civil engineering; Laboratory for Water Quality and Waste Management; Laboratory for construction surveying; Model making workshop with modern equipment for the construction of models in accordance with qualified instruction; The Laboratory for Architecture and Project Management (LAP) offers the possibility of computer-aided visualisation and AutoCAD 2010 on 18 computers and 2 large format printers. The intelligent new building on campus is a laboratory. Students can programme the controls themselves.

Special features regarding research and development

The Minden Campus department is mainly involved in application-oriented research and development. The research focuses offered are: Intelligent building technologies, intelligent power grids and innovation management. The new building of the Minden Campus has a geothermal system and building automation. It is the second university building in Germany that meets the requirements of Energy Efficiency Class A thanks to intelligent, computer-aided building technology. The new building is used for research.

Support for founders

The Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE) is a university-wide point of contact for all those at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences interested in starting a business; the university offers active support through all phases of starting a business. Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences promotes the active transfer of knowledge and thus professional self-employment as an essential career option for students and academic staff. Spin-offs from the university are actively supported and looked after. This is how practical applications are found for innovative ideas, research results and inventions.

Other special features

Our students value the small size of the green campus, the personal atmosphere and the individual guidance offered by professors, assistant professors and staff. The department offers excellently equipped laboratories and modern, well-equipped rooms with modern IT in a fully renovated historical artillery barracks.
