Special features regarding teaching

Study objective: Top technical training in computer science, technical language English, methodological competence, ability for lifelong learning, teamwork and project management, soft skills and personality development. Bilingual study programme D and E. The English-language portions increase in the course of the studies. Extra modules to develop the technical language English. Stays abroad, contacts with companies and scientific institutions; thematic orientation towards the topics of modern computer science; contemporary teaching formats; possibility to study longer at an individual pace.

Special features regarding the equipment

The RUB has excellent state-of-the-art technical equipment, which provides the best conditions for studying and working. Well-equipped seminar, computer and teaching rooms as well as specialist libraries are available in sufficient numbers. The PC workstations are equipped with various scientific (Matlab, Sage) and standard software. Through campus-wide licenses, the library provides access to various professional journals and libraries, such as the ACM Digital Library. Students can purchase software (e.g. MS Office package) very cheaply through the RUB.

Special features regarding research activities

The course is offered by the Centre of Computer Science (CCS), which is a joint institution of the Faculty of Mathematics and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The research covers a broad field of modern computer science. Core areas such as algorithms, distributed and networked systems, databases and information systems, software engineering, machine learning or IT security are in focus. The world-renowned Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security, the Institute for Neuroinformatics and the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy strengthen the Centre's environment.

Support for founders

WORLDFACTORY is one of the central transfer and start-up projects of the RUB. Scientists as well as students receive competent advice, rooms and infrastructure for practical testing as well as networking opportunities. The Worldfactory Start-up Centre is one of the six "Excellence Start-up Centres.NRW" awarded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim is to significantly increase the number of spin-offs from the RUB and to get students interested in the topics of start-ups and entrepreneurship as early as possible. About 20 IT start-ups have been created at the RUB.
