Special features regarding teaching

In principle, teaching takes place in small course sizes. The emphasis is on the interactive exchange between lecturers and students. New, innovative teaching and learning formats are used, such as case studies, working on projects, workshops, integration seminars on industry topics, simulation games and management simulations. In so-called teaching-oriented research activities, current problems and research topics are prepared for the students and worked on by small student teams.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Department of Business Informatics has had a clear international focus for over 10 years by establishing an international Business Informatics course and 2 corresponding international courses with some 60 students. International relationships are based on student and lecturer exchanges with the international partner universities in Europe, America and Asia. Stays abroad in the theoretical and practical phases are possible and promoted.

Special features regarding the equipment

The Department of Business Informatics offers a current IT infrastructure (e.g. digitalisation laboratory with 12 training / work stations with Raspberry Pi and IoT equipment, project area for prototype construction, data science laboratory) and at the same time integrates existing notebooks / tablets of the students , so that they can be used for courses. There are also a number of collaborations with the university programmes of important IT providers, such as IBM, Microsoft, SAP, so that these can be used by students for practical topics or courses.

Special features regarding research activities

Research is carried out in an application-oriented manner and in cooperation with companies, other universities and research institutions at regional, national and international level. In addition to solving existing company problems, the inclusion of the latest findings from research in teaching is also guaranteed. The network of innovative teaching and research centres, CASE, supports students in the application of social science methods and their own projects as well as the implementation of professorial research projects for teaching/socially relevant issues.

Other special features

In terms of content - in the form of courses - as well as organisationally, a number of important industry-wide standard certifications (for example ITIL, SAP) are supported, which allow students to further qualify professionally; Cross-faculty cooperation in various projects, centres and initiatives on sustainability; Cross-faculty establishment of innovative facilities to enhance teaching, such as a multimedia quality and innovation lab
