Special features regarding teaching

Our courses combine a general and specific compulsory programme with a large number of individual elective options. The specific content, such as Strategic IT Management and Business Process Optimisation, can be consolidated on the basis of solid methodological skills. The further the study progresses, the more options students have to choose their own specialisations. At the same time, number of practice projects increases through the course of the studies. This ensures the acquisition of skills in a timely and practical manner as well as the establishment of contacts to companies.

Special features regarding the international orientation

There are numerous international contacts in the faculty. The newly established programmes in Business Informatics benefit particularly from the experience of the Bachelor's degree course in International Business Administration and the Master's degree course in International Marketing & Sales with their strong English-language offers that attract many students from abroad, especially from the numerous partner universities. These partnerships thrive on constant exchange, especially in the form of visits and guest stays. Joint projects with international companies are also carried out.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

ESC Clermont-Ferrand, Frankreich; Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexiko; KOREA Tech,Südkorea; East Stroudsburg University, USA; Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina,Brasilien; NTNU, Norwegen; Jönköping University, Schweden; Munster Technological University, Irland; South Eastern Finnland University of Applied Sciences, Finnland.

Special features regarding the equipment

Our faculty offers a variety of courses with different requirements. This creates a wide range of possibilities in terms of technical equipment and subject-specific databases. As concerns technical equipment, we also benefit from the possibilities of the technical departments, particularly Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. Our technical equipment meets modern requirements and our databases up-to-date, well maintained and comprehensive. Open study and project spaces complement modern computer clusters, and there is also a CP factory (Industry 4.0).

Special features regarding research activities

The Business Information Systems professors are involved in the fields of applied artificial intelligence and machine learning. Third-party funds have been raised, e.g. in the area of predictive maintenance. The funds will be used to finance research assistants, including Master's students from Aalen. One area of research currently under development is the field of medical applications of AI and machine learning. The faculty generally follows the applied research approach, meaning that companies are involved in the research, as well as hospitals.

Support for founders

To promote entrepreneurial spirit, the Aalen University has implemented its own programme (GuStL). In the faculty, all students benefit from the experience of small and medium-sized companies in the field of business start-ups. In practical terms, we promote start-ups together with the technical departments of the university and have developed the joint Master's in Business Development especially for entrepreneurial students. Together with our innovation centre and the AAcelerator of our region, we offer student start-ups space, equipment and advice for a successful start.

Other special features

We conduct our own selection procedures for our courses and, as a faculty, deliberately emphasize the selection of applicants. Our focus is on (future) students. This is why we invest in student support and make time for students. This is borne out by a large number of tutorials, exercises and small group sizes.
