Special features regarding teaching

Annually updated range of study offers with in-depth teaching of the fundamentals and possibilities for specialisation in the fields of Electrical Energy Engineering, Automation Engineering (incl. Robotics), Microsystem Engineering, Micro- and Nanoelectronics, Information Technology, Regenerative Energy Engineering, Electromobility and Biomedical Engineering; very attractive Master´s degree programmes taught in German and English, also for admissions from other German and international higher education institutions; integrated industry/research placements that can be transferred (in the form of credits) in all courses of study.

Special features regarding the international orientation

With 3 completely English-language Master’s degree programmes (courses of study: Micro and Nano Systems, Information and Communication Systems, Embedded Systems) largest proportion of international students at Chemnitz University of Technology. International research training group: ‘Materials and Concepts for Advanced Interconnects and Nano Systems’ (partner country for the focus area: China). Close cooperation with the University of Sfax in Tunisia especially in the field of embedded systems as well as measurement and sensor technology.

Special features regarding the equipment

Specific to the Chemnitz Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is the organisation of the individual research fields around the Centre for Microtechnologies (ZfM), which acts as the technological basis and stimulator. There is an essential requirement to develop the high research and teaching skills that characterise the faculty in the field of micro- and nanotechnologies.

Special features regarding research activities

Department of Information Technology and Communication Technology: Digitalisation (Industry 4.0, IoT), autonomous driving, image processing and evaluation in areas such as nursing care and security; Research area in microsystems and semiconductor engineering: Micro- and nanosystems (design, technology, characterisation, testing), integration of sensors in composite materials, smart miniaturised sensor and actuator systems, including in medicine; Research area in energy and automation systems: Robotics (including intelligent robot skin, medicine), control and automatic control technology for Industry 4.0, regenerative power engineering, electromobility

Support for founders

Start-up support by the SAXEED founders’ network; high spin-off rate in the field of information technology, particularly under the chairs in communications engineering and digital and circuit technology

Other special features

Synergies in research and instruction through cooperation with institutes in the field located in the immediate vicinity of the campus, such as the Centre for Microelectronics (ZfM) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems (ENAS), the Center for Materials, Architectures and Integration of Nanomembranes (MAIN), the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU), the MERGE Research Centre ‘Lightweight Technologies’ and the Innovation Cluster for Fuel Cells and Hydrogen (HZwo.)
