Special features regarding teaching

The mechatronics degree course is part of the Automotive Engineering and Aircraft Construction department. Degree course-specific resources of the four departments of Mechanical Engineering and Production, Information and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Vehicle Engineering and Aircraft Construction and Computer Science are used for teaching and research. There are currently around 60 professors integrated in teaching on an alternating basis. 21 laboratories and institutes of the department are used. The project teams, which often span degree courses, are truly able to conduct interdisciplinary work thanks to the strong links among teachers.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Many partnerships with European higher education institutions in the Erasmus programme; Very well-organised partnerships with universities in the USA and Hong Kong; Very good support for work placements abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

The degree course benefits from the very good equipment of the four involved departments. The degree course is financially supported by the faculty. Investments are made in the laboratories important for Mechatronics. These are, in particular, Robotics, Adaptronics, Automation Engineering, Drive Engineering and Sensor Engineering. There is additional funding for student projects.

Special features regarding research and development

Current projects focus on selected issues in digital product development, robotics and human-machine cooperation, electromobility and hydrogen drives as well as autonomous driving as well as the development of computer-aided simulation methods, to name just a few. In addition, third-party funding is procured through a variety of funding programmes of the well-known third-party donors (BMBF, BMWE, Authority for Science, Research and Equality FHH, EU, German Research Foundation and others) as well as foundations and industrial companies.

Support for founders

The Automotive Engineering and Aircraft Construction department uses the general services of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences as part of its career service. It offers workshops and advice on the transition from university to work.

Other special features

The mechatronics degree course is part of the Automotive Engineering and Aircraft Construction department and is taught together with the Computer Science, Information Technology and Electrical Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering and Production departments. Mechatronics students thus have access to more than 160 professors from the Engineering and Computer Science faculty. Students acquire an almost unique breadth of the MINT skills required for mechatronics.
