Special features regarding teaching

Materials Engineering: Surface Engineering, such as PVD, electroplating, thermal injections; Plastics Engineering; Composites (carbon-fibre reinforced plastics, glass-fibre reinforced plastics); Modern Textile Engineering (technical applications, carbon engineering, non-woven fabrics). Mechanical Engineering: Production Engineering (machining) and production organisation; Constructive focus on resource-efficient design (lightweight construction, calculation methods, CAE, simulation engineering); Special focus on environmentally responsible technology, energy and water supply; Appropriate teaching content in soft skills (business administration, project management, communication).

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department offers an "International Mechanical Engineering" degree course which includes a compulsory year abroad (one study semester, one practical semester). Agreements are concluded with a number of higher education institutions to support students. Some of the courses before the semester abroad are held in English.

Special features regarding the equipment

The faculty has very good facilities: Materials Testing (testing of mechanical properties, microscopy, REM, etc.); Plastics Processing and Generative Production Processes (3D printing); Surface Engineering (PVD, electroplating, paint, modification bonding); Chipping manufacturing engineering available; Energy Engineering Laboratory; Water and Environmental Engineering Laboratory; CAE techniques (CAD/FEM/simulation); A special feature: Teaching and research of innovative textile engineering which covers non-woven materials, fibre composites (lightweight design) and also carbon engineering in the future.

Special features regarding research and development

Ice storage; Energy monitoring, energy saving, thermal insulation; Lightweight construction/textiles; Function-integrated plastic parts; Thin-film engineering; Biopolymers;; Foil production

Other special features

Many industrial partners/students cooperate in the framework of the Bavarian training model "Dual University" which combines commercial training (with IHK (Chamber of Commerce) diploma) and academic studies.
