Special features regarding teaching

In the winter semester 2017/18, the LFE Sport has started an international study degree course M.Sc. "Applied Neurosciences in Sports and Exercise" implemented in English.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Le Mans Université, Frankreich; University of Padova, Italien; Lithuanian Sports University, Litauen; Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norwegen; Stellenbosch University, Südafrika; Illinois State University, USA; Idaho State University, USA; Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, USA; University of Oklahoma, USA

Special features regarding the equipment

The spatial resources available for the courses in the field of "Theory and Practice of Types of Sport" are two triple sports halls, two gymnastics rooms and, in cooperation with the university sports programme, a health training centre. In addition, the Sports Institute has extensive outdoor facilities (athletics facilities, two football fields, tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, 9-hole and 18-hole golf course). Various teaching and research laboratories in specific sub-disciplines (exercise science, sports medicine, psychology & exercise).

Sport facilities

Sports medical examination centre of the DOSB and LSB (incl. health examinations and performance diagnostics).

Special features regarding research activities

The research topic "Sport and Health" forms, in addition to the interests of the specific sections, the inter-disciplinary framework of the department. Applied research in the fields of Rehabilitation, Prevention, Fitness and Competitive Sports offers both a variety of approaches with excellent opportunities for research in biomechanical, sport psychological, neuroscientific and sport medical research laboratories in the different areas, as well providing a unique feature within Germany due to the Neurological and Neuroscience focus.

Other special features

The Department of Sport and Health cooperates successfully in the field of research and teaching with institutions from the health market and competitive sports. There are numerous collaborations with institutions such as clinics and therapy centres as well as with sports persons, clubs and associations from national and international high-performance sport. On the one hand, the cooperation agreements allow practice-oriented teaching for the students (e.g. in the orthopaedic biomechanics lab of a rehabilitation clinic) and, on the other hand, application-oriented research (in the area of the German football league).
