Special features regarding teaching

High proportion of seminars, exercises and practicals in small groups. Thus, there is close contact between students and lecturers. Large number of blended learning elements in teaching, such as geocaching, serious games, virtual sandbox, audio slidecasts for lectures, inverted classroom concepts.

Special features regarding the equipment

Geomorphology/Geo-Ecology: Physical/geographical lab for sedimentological-pedological sample analyses, X-ray fluorescence analysis, range of drilling machinery including core saw, laser particle sizer, Sedigraph, CHNS analyser, pH metres, muffle furnace, various microscopes and remote sensing and GIS software; Climatology: Two permanent automatic weather stations at two regional sites, five mobile automatic weather stations, three fine dust measuring instruments, two ultrasonic anemometers, ice-steam drill, vertical captive balloon probe as well as various mobile measuring sensors for atmospheric measurements.

Special features regarding research activities

The research activities combine fundamental work with a decided application-oriented focus. In addition to basic research with DFG or BMBF funding, many practical projects are also carried out in the form of contract research for external, usually public (e.g. local authority) users of the developed knowledge. Some students are already involved in these projects at an early stage. Particular focus is placed on research with international or European orientation (various EU inter-regionally funded projects).
