Special features regarding teaching

In Braunschweig, theory, pharmaceutical practice and science are closely linked. Even during their studies, students synthesise and analyse medicinal substances, identify medicinal plants and produce medicinal products. The practice of drug therapies is studied in the training pharmacy and in cooperation with the hospital. Only in Braunschweig is there the interdisciplinary programme "PhaNetzt", in which students work on scientific topics over four semesters. A highlight of the course is the afternoon of research, where students present the results of their own research.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In Braunschweig there are excellent opportunities for stays abroad during studies at eight European universities in seven countries (Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain) within the framework of Erasmus cooperation. There are worldwide exchanges for students, doctoral candidates and lecturers with universities and research institutions in numerous countries, including Great Britain, France, Sweden, the USA, Japan, China and New Zealand. Students regularly report on their international research stays at the Afternoon of Research.

Special features regarding the equipment

Due to the close cooperation with the Centre for Pharmaceutical Process Engineering, excellent equipment is available, e.g. for investigations on tissue constructs to save animal experiments. In addition, there is sophisticated equipment for imaging and high-resolution processes, cell culture laboratories and drug formulation pilot plants. The Fachinformationsdienst Pharmazie provides licenses of pharmaceutical literature and databases, operates the platform PubPharm with more than 55 million publications and provides numerous pharmaceutical textbooks as e-books.

Special features regarding research activities

Braunschweig is a centre of molecular drug research and drug development. Current projects concern drug design and analytics, biologically produced drugs and nanostructured drug carriers. Important projects are underway on drugs for specific diseases (cardiovascular, diabetes, cancer, infections). In addition, there are pharmaceutical history topics and alternatives to animal testing. Close cooperation partners are the Centre for Pharmaceutical Process Engineering, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research as well as international companies and research organisations.

Support for founders

Start-ups are intensively promoted by the TU Braunschweig. The Technology Transfer Office helps to find contacts within the TU Braunschweig as well as to companies and research institutions. It supports inventors in marketing their research results and provides assistance in setting up companies. The cooperation of the TU Braunschweig with the Innovationsgesellschaft Technische Universität Braunschweig mbH (iTUBS) ensures a commercial knowledge and technology transfer with as few administrative hurdles as possible.

Other special features

In addition to the special features that are tangible through hard facts (proximity to research centres and to the specialist pharmacy information service, excellent location), pharmacy in Braunschweig is characterised by the close cooperation between the scientists, the working groups and institutions, as well as the teaching staff and students. This creates a pleasant collegial working atmosphere, which leads to very pleasing results in teaching and research and contributes to the high number of graduates at the Braunschweig location.
