Special features regarding teaching

Model course of study linking theoretical and clinical content from 1st semester through to the practical year; early contact to patients; research-related modules; comprehensive integration of problem-based learning and communication/interaction training.

Arrangements of special exercises at the department

The Charité Learning Centre is the central place for medical students as well as students and trainees of other subjects to learn with, from and about each other. It was one of the first skills labs in Germany to be certified by the Practical Skills Committee of the Society for Medical Education. The aim of the learning centre is to support the individual needs and wishes of the different learners and to promote self-determined learning as well as to enable all teachers to create a pleasant protected teaching and learning atmosphere.

Special features regarding research activities

At the Charité, researchers in the three pillars Faculty, University Hospital and Berlin Institute of Health work primarily in the focus areas of Infection, Inflammation and Immunity, Cardiovascular Research and Metabolism, Rare Diseases and Genetics, Oncology, Regenerative Therapies and Neurosciences to advance forward-looking developments in the field of medicine while maintaining the highest standards of quality and sustainability. The focus is on the interdisciplinary interaction of basic and patient-oriented research.

Other special features

Dieter Scheffner Fachzentrum as an independent facility for medical university teaching and evidence-based educational research; early compulsory courses to ensure good scientific practice
