Special features regarding teaching

Permanent further development of teaching and performance records by the Dental Clinic Curriculum Committee and the Departmental Examination Board respectively.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department has a strong international network and maintains cooperation and exchange agreements with the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia/Lima (Peru), Monash University/Melbourne (Australia), Tibet University (China), the N. Lopatkin Scientific Research Institute/Moscow (Russia) and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile/Santiago (Chile). Furthermore, within the framework of the already existing university cooperation agreement, this is to be extended to the University of Bursa (Turkey). Within the framework of a DAAD project there is a cooperation with 2 Greek universities.

Special features regarding research activities

The research focus of the centre is "Oral Health and Surface Interactions (OHSI)". Under this focus, the Centre's research projects concentrate primarily on interdisciplinary activities concerning the genetic and exogenous disposition of diseases, prophylaxis, diagnostics and therapy in the field of dental, oral and maxillofacial diseases (MDD), basic research concerning oral interface effects as well as biomaterials research and geriatric dentistry.

Other special features

The continuing education Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry was accredited in 2015. Since then, it has been held regularly in conjunction with the University of Marburg on a part-time basis. An international Master’s degree course is undergoing preparation. As postgraduate further education programmes, courses leading to the specialist qualification in orthodontics and oral surgery are carried out in cooperation with the State Dental Association.
