Special features regarding teaching

Students of computer science can choose from a wide range of specialisations; a large free elective area with 32LP(B.Sc.) / 34LP(M.Sc.) allows an individual choice of modules and has a positive effect on the studyability due to the high flexibility; due to the high density of IT companies and research institutes in the region, students can acquire a very practical education in addition to a strong scientific foundation; all specialisation lectures are offered in English, which makes the department attractive for international students.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Sorbonne, Paris, Frankreich; Univ. Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, Frankreich; Univ. Politécnica de Madris, Spanien; Univ. Karlskrona, Schweden; Univ. Oulu, Finnland; Univ. Bolzano, Italien; Univ. Special features regarding the equipment

Extensive computer and software equipment is available to the students on three levels. The regional university computer centre (RHRK) provides several computer rooms, a high-performance computer and a central printing service. The SCI (Computer Science Service Centre) provides the department's own IT provision with a total of 100 terminal workstations in four rooms. All work groups in the department provide sufficient student workplaces to carry out practical placements and final theses.

Special features regarding research activities

The Computer Science department is at the core of one of the largest IT (research) centres in Germany. The profile is characterised by the engineering design of information systems. General research aims are the improvement of system reliability, adaptability as well as equipping these systems with more artificial intelligence. The central application areas of the site are Systems, Intelligent and Distributed Information Systems, as well as Scientific Computing.

Support for founders

The TU Kaiserslautern has a start-up centre which is in contact with the faculty.
