Special features regarding teaching

Independent mathematics faculty with broad mathematics education and many opportunities for individual emphasis. Within the Universitätsallianz Ruhr, students can take additional elective courses offered by neighbouring universities. Mathematics, Engineering Mathematics Combination with a subsidiary subject. Business Mathematics: Course of study jointly offered with the Faculty of Business and Economics. Study projects as practical courses. Teacher training degrees: Teaching Qualification in Mathematics for all school forms and all school levels.

Special features regarding the equipment

The TU Dortmund is a centre for supercomputers with strong participation of Mathematics. The faculty has very good computing equipment for teaching, research and academic study. There are computer pools for students of the Faculty of Mathematics (mathematical software etc.) as well as general pools at the TU Dortmund. The university library is a very well-equipped reference library with extensive opening hours (open Monday to Friday from 7 am to 1 am, on weekends from 9 am to 1 am); in addition, there is a large digital offering.

Special features regarding research activities

Modelling and Simulation; Numerical Methods in Continuum Mechanics; PDEs (partial differential equations) and applications; Stochastics, Business and Financial Mathematics; participation in collaborative projects (Collaborative Research Centres/Transregios, Research Training Groups, DFG Priority Programs); diverse research projects in mathematics didactics.

Support for founders

TU Dortmund is one of the leading start-up universities. It bundles its activities in the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Transfer (central university institution for business start-ups and transfer from science, in which the Faculty of Economics in particular also participates (as a partner of the Business Mathematics course); the tu>startup start-up initiative and the knowledge and technology transfer at TU Dortmund University have received several awards.

Other special features

The Faculty offers three major teaching areas: Mathematics training for the full degree course (Mathematics, Engineering Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Teaching Qualification for Grammar School level), Mathematics for Teaching Qualifications for all school forms and levels; Mathematics training for all Natural and Engineering Sciences at the TU; many students work as assistants (tutors) at the faculty.
