Special features regarding teaching

Wide range of courses within the framework of a large department with 15 chairs and great freedom of choice in the courses (majors and minors). Embedding in the Faculty of Technology allows for an engineering orientation of the degree course. Many tutorials so that content from the lectures can be practised in small groups in the form of blackboard and computer exercises. Feedback through corrections of exercise sheets; research-oriented, but also practice-relevant education possible through a large number of research projects.

Modern equipment of high-performance computer workstations with 24" monitors incl. software licenses necessary for education; comprehensive WiFi; modern hardware development workstations;"Embedded Systems"; Robotics laboratories; graphics/virtual reality lab; high-performance cluster; 3D projection facility; automotive lab, large historical computer science collection with running Zuse Z23.

Special features regarding research activities

Important research topics in Computer Science are based in the fields of Medical Technology, Embedded Systems and Modelling and Simulation. These are complemented by extensive expertise in the areas of IT security, artificial intelligence/machine learning, visual computing and graphics, as well as high-performance computing, cooperation with Fraunhofer IIS in the field of artificial intelligence, cooperation with Siemens, adidas and many medium-sized companies in the region.

Support for founders

There is a start-up officer at the Department of Computer Science who acts and advises in close coordination with the university network (start-up office, large number of offers in this area, Zollhof Nürnberg as incubator for start-ups). The course AMOS (Agile Methods and Open Source) already takes up the founding idea in the teaching concept. Experience/advice and successes within the framework of the EXIST programme.
