Special features regarding teaching

We actively incorporate economic, social and technological developments into teaching. Sustainability is an integral part of the study programme. Students discuss long-term consequences of economic action and political possibilities. Research findings are actively incorporated and students are introduced to the current state of research. Research-, problem- and project-oriented learning approaches complement the traditional teaching formats.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Faculty is considered one of the leading institutes on economic research in Europe. As is international practice, it is divided into departments along the lines of research and teaching. It offers an English-taught Master´s degree programme that complies with international standards.

Special features regarding research activities

The faculty is one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. Our research is funded by renowned third-party funding bodies such as the German Research Foundation (DFG) or the ERC. The faculty is currently involved in three research clusters: The Excellence Cluster "ECONtribute: Markets and Public Policy", the Excellence Cluster "Hausdorff Centre for Mathematics" and the Collaborative Research Centre "Economic Perspectives on Societal Challenges". We want to actively engage in public debate and provide impetus for effective policy measures.

Support for founders

The Career Centre at the University of Bonn is a service unit for students, which advises students on setting up companies. In addition to initial consultation, there is the university's "Stammtisch", the network for company founders, a contact person for funding programmes, as well as numerous partners such as those of the Digital Hob Region Bonn AG and the association NUK Neues Unternehmertum Rheinland e.V. There are close contacts to the city of Bonn’s business development agency.

Other special features

Together with the University of Cologne, the department has won Germany's only excellence cluster for Economics. The Bonn lab is well known for experimental economic research. All degree courses are subject to a comprehensive quality management process and are accredited. There is close cooperation with the students in the committees and an active Economics student body. A project centre for Strategic Course Development is currently creating the framework to embed diversity, sustainability and internationality in courses.
