Special features regarding teaching

The teaching at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Biology not only includes courses from the areas of chemistry and biochemistry, but also from bioorganic, bioinorganic, biophysical, macromolecular and analytical chemistry. The curriculum is complemented by courses in the Didactics of Chemistry and courses that are offered in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology, the Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors, the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering and other institutions.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Thanks to the very open degree structure, courses completed abroad can easily be recognised, particularly for the Master's degree course. Research placements and final theses completed abroad can also easily be integrated into the course. In order to promote the option to study abroad, the faculty maintains numerous cooperation agreements as part of the Erasmus+ exchange programme and offers in-depth personal guidance.

Special features regarding the equipment

At the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, students can use state-of-the-art analysis equipment from Chemistry and Chemical Biology during lab practicals. This is complemented by a joint NMR laboratory and a centre for mass spectrometry within the faculty. All students have access to computers and printers. Lecture theatres and seminar rooms are equipped with digital projectors and WiFi Internet access is provided.

Support for founders

TU Dortmund initiates, funds and honours company start-ups and transfer from science. It actively supports its students, graduates and staff in the development and implementation of business ideas, in the evaluation, registration and utilisation of inventions and patents as well as in the transfer of knowledge and technology. The many offers and measures are bundled in the Centre for Entrepreneurship & Transfer. The tu>startup founding initiative and the knowledge and technology transfer of the TU Dortmund have received multiple awards.
