Special features regarding teaching

Integration of current engineering issues in the lecture material; personal contact between lecturers and students; extensive range of additional exercises and tutorials; optimal learning conditions through small groups (with study rooms for students to further improve The study conditions).

Special features regarding the international orientation

There are numerous international collaborations partner universities that encourage Engineering students to spend a period of time studying abroad. Every Chair maintains close contacts with several international research institutions through exchange of scientific knowledge and reciprocal research visits, for example at partner universities. Université de Montréal, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University can be mentioned as examples here.

Special features regarding the equipment

The extensive equipment for teaching, practical training and research is continuously being updated and extended. A new building with the very latest seminar rooms and a state-of-the-art technology centre was opened in 2019, and there is another building in planning.

Special features regarding research activities

Key research areas are new materials, energy and environmental technology, automotive engineering and batteries with the founding of the Bayreuth Battery Centre.

Support for founders

The university is already regarded as a "founder university", as start-up initiatives are supported centrally. There has been a separate point of contact for this since 2014, the Entrepreneurship & Innovation department. It supports company founders at the University of Bayreuth through classes as well as advice and coaching. Projects are checked for marketability and technical and legal feasibility and are also supported. Students have been able to apply for a leave semester to start a business since the 2018 summer semester.

Other special features

The faculty is a member of the faculty association for Mechanical and Process Engineering, the study association and the MatWerk faculty association as well as the work placement association; The high standards set by the relevant supervisory committees have been met in the rankings of recent years.
