Special features regarding teaching

Building on the skills acquired in the GIG, there is a range of opportunities for deepening. Lectures are accompanied by seminars with independent, application-oriented development tasks (integration of research into teaching). The specialist internship is an integral part of the curriculum towards the Bachelor’s degree. Project seminars in the Master’s programme work on current research topics in interdisciplinary groups. Theses derive from research and are supervised individually by HSL. Double-degree programmes also foster intercultural and language skills

Special features regarding the international orientation

Double degree programmes; cooperation with many academic higher education institutions, key areas such as Eastern Europe, South America, China.

Special features regarding the equipment

Centre for Micro- and Nanotechnologies for prototypical manufacturing; Barrel of Ilmenau: largest device installation in the world for investigating turbulent convection with the highest relative measuring resolution; FASP Flexible Audiovisual Stereo Projection facility with acoustic wave field synthesis; Capabilities of the Department of Mechanical Engineering

Special features regarding research activities

Basic and application-oriented research;; Focus on the research clusters at Ilmenau University of Technology; Development of large-scale research projects with an interdisciplinary composition (DFG Research Training Group on ‘Peak and Laser-Based Nanofabrication’); Participation in the Thuringian Innovation Centre for Mobility (ThIMo) and in the research work of institutes and technology centres; Intradepartmental research groups with numerous topics funded by the German state or federal government or the European Union; Collaborations with non-university research institutions (IMMS, Fraunhofer Society and Helmholtz Association).
