Special features regarding teaching

A research-based, comprehensive degree course with close integration of natural and engineering sciences at one of the largest and most successful Biochemical and Chemical Engineering departments in Germany; current engineering issues are already tackled in the 1st semester; special courses in the initial study phase, coaching and support system for students offered throughout the course; comprehensive range of tutorials; More than 100 elective subjects; group work in the 7th semester demonstrates the quality of the training; good contacts with the teaching staff, excellent departmental student organisation; very good employment prospects.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Internationally oriented specialisation (in English) in the Master's degree course in Chemical Engineering – Process Systems Engineering; the option to spend time studying abroad at numerous appealing partner universities worldwide is promoted; possibility of an industry work placement in Japan; the faculty is heavily involved in the International Summer Programme of TU Dortmund; special guidance for international students; special programmes for refugees.

Numerous research projects with national and international funding (projects with third-party funding), in particular financed by the EU; main research topics: developing and improving safe production processes that protect the environment, conserve resources and make efficient use of materials; focal topics of overarching research: Chemical Process Engineering, Sustainable Biochemical Engineering and Product Development and Process Engineering for Speciality Products; Joint venture of TU Dortmund (Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering) with Bayer "INVITE".

Support for founders

TU Dortmund initiates, funds and honours company start-ups and transfer from science. It actively supports its students, graduates and staff in the development and implementation of business ideas, in the evaluation, registration and utilisation of inventions and patents as well as in the transfer of knowledge and technology. The many offers and measures are bundled in the Centre for Entrepreneurship & Transfer. The tu>startup founding initiative and the knowledge and technology transfer of the TU Dortmund have received multiple awards.
