Special features regarding teaching

Very good student-teacher ratio and broad range of topics covered by 6 (from summer semester 2023: 7) professorships in Business Information Systems. Excellent Computer Science training by renowned Paderborn Computer Science. Master's in Business Informatics and Master's in MIS enables individual specialisations to be selected with technical or business-related content. Integration of current research topics and new, IT-based teaching formats for exciting and varied teaching; Excellent networking with industry. Integration of practitioners into teaching; study abroad is possible without problems.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The degree courses are offered jointly by the Faculty of Economics and the Institute of Computer Science. Our students can use the international programmes (> 100) of both institutions, and there are also excellent programmes specifically for Business Information Systems students. With the ASBE programme, we offer a special focus on Asia; The degree programmes provide time windows for stays abroad and credits obtained are recognised quickly; We offer numerous events for international visiting lecturers and establish seminars with international student teams.

Special features regarding the equipment

Our technical equipment is up to date. In addition to modern equipped lecture halls, computer cluster rooms and campus-wide WiFi coverage, we offer two ultra-modern IT laboratories: The ERP lab has SAP developer licences, geo-information systems and data glasses; The SODA lab provides high-performance computers with high-end graphics cards for the development of machine/deep learning and augmented/virtual reality applications. There is a new cluster for parallel computing in NOCTUA. We offer regular courses and certifications (e.g. ITIL, SAP TERP10, CAPM).

Special features regarding research activities

We examine and design information systems in the digital transformation at all levels of action (individual, group, company, market, society) and analyse data using methods of optimisation and data science. Through excellent large-scale research projects (e.g. Collaborative Research Centre 901), international EU projects and collaboration with companies on the joint research campus on Zukunftsmeile 2, we design innovations for the digital society, for example in digital retail, disaster management, intelligent energy networks, electromobility and social participation.

Support for founders

The University of Paderborn provides the Excellence Start-up Centre.OWL and has a technology transfer and start-up centre in which infrastructure, technical advice, financing partners and networking opportunities are made available. In addition, many (Business Information Systems) chairs offer courses as preparation for start-ups, and the professors act as mentors for start-up teams. Many approved EXIST and NRW start-up grants are evidence of the entrepreneurial spirit and success of Paderborn students.

Other special features

Business Information Systems offers degree courses with excellent job prospects and a lifelong successful career in the digital economy. The close cooperation with numerous companies in the SICP as well as the excellent technical and human resources provide the ideal setting for academic success.
