Special features regarding teaching

Very good support ratio and broad range of topics covered by through 5 fully developed chairs in Business Informatics. Excellent Computer Science training by renowned Paderborn Computer Science. Master's in Business Informatics and Master's in MIS enables individual specialisations to be selected with technical or business-related content. Integration of current research topics as well as new, IT-supported teaching formats for an exciting and varied course; excellent networking with fields of business. Involvement of practitioners in teaching; studying abroad is no problem.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The WINFO Bachelor's and Master's courses are offered jointly by the Faculty of Economics and the Institute of Computer Science. Our students can use the foreign programmes of both institutions (> 100), and there are also excellent programmes for WINFO students. With the ASBE programme we offer a focus on Asia; curricula provide time slots for stays abroad and achievements are credited quickly; we offer numerous events for international guest lecturers and establish seminars with international student teams.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Special features regarding the equipment

Our technical equipment is up to date. In addition to modern equipped lecture halls, PC pool rooms and campus-wide WiFi coverage, we offer two ultra-modern IT laboratories: The ERP-LAB has SAP developer licenses, geo-information systems and data glasses; the SODA Lab provides high-performance computers with high-end graphics cards for the development of machine / deep learning and augmented / virtual reality applications. NOCTUA creates a new cluster for parallel computing. We offer regular courses and certifications (e.g. ITIL, SAP TERP10, CAPM).

Special features regarding research activities

With 5 chairs, we investigate and design information systems in digital change at all levels of action (people / working groups, companies, markets) and analyse data using methods of optimisation and data science. Through excellent large-scale research projects (e.g. SFB901), international EU projects and cooperation with companies on the joint research campus, we design innovations for the digital society, for example in digital retail, disaster management, intelligent energy networks, electromobility and social participation.

Support for founders

The University of Paderborn provides the Excellence Start-up Centre.OWL and has a technology transfer and start-up centre in which infrastructure, technical advice, financing partners and networking opportunities are made available. In addition, many (Business Informatics) professors offer courses in preparation of start-ups, and the professors act as mentors for start-up teams. Many approved EXIST and NRW start-up grants are evidence of the entrepreneurial spirit and success of Paderborn students.

Other special features

Business Informatics offers courses with the best job prospects and a lifelong successful career in the digital society. As a leading IT location, Paderborn has the highest density of IT companies per inhabitant. The close cooperation between the university and the company as well as the excellent technical and human resources offer excellent conditions for a successful degree. We offer a wide range of offers to support the establishment of a company. Efficient degree course management ensures short study times on a campus with short distances.
