Special features regarding teaching

Teaching with a maximum of 36 students per group; Predominantly seminar-style lessons with a high proportion of practical exercises (using modern software systems) suitable for Computer Science degree courses; The content taught continuously adapts to requirements in industry, language courses in small groups (on average about 10 to 12 people); additional training offered in the form of seminars (extra-curricular studies with approx. 60 subjects per quarter)

Special features regarding the international orientation

English as a foreign language is compulsory in the Bachelor's degree course in Business Informatics, optionally Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese or Japanese can be taken. Many cooperation companies are internationally positioned so that practical experience abroad can be gathered. In addition, students have the opportunity to go abroad in the 5th semester. Academic International Office for counselling and support (outgoing + incoming, Erasmus programme).

Special features regarding research activities

Use or development of methods of digitalisation to address the challenges of practice, sustainability or teaching. These include, in particular, the three trends: Digital transformation, AI, smart technologies, which we address in the Faculty of Computer Science with the following research topics, for example: Computer science education & diversity, applied data science, IT controlling, e-learning & digital laboratory training, usability, business process management. We also aim to promote networking with other institutions in this context.

Compulsory elective modules in the field of entrepreneurship; Entrepreneurs Club as a student department; Projects in start-up companies in the Master's programme; Projects in the Master's programme with topics chosen by the students themselves on ideas for a later spin-off; Alumni network NORDAKADEMIKER e.V. as an exchange platform and peer group for start-up ideas.

Library with database access (EBSCO, WISO, Statista, etc.). Signatory to the Diversity Charter since 2016; Regular participation in German Diversity Day since 2017. The NORDAKADEMIE is a member of the HochN university association for the promotion of sustainable development at universities in Germany. We participate in the regular exchange of experiences there. The Elmshorn campus has a nature-oriented design with a large variety of species and a wetland biotope. There is a range of Fairtrade products in the cafeteria and an electric charging station for electric cars.
