Special features regarding teaching

Thanks to decades of nurturing contacts in regional industry, industry experts are involved in teaching. There is close support in the practice semester and collaboration in teaching/practice projects (BA) as well as research projects (MA). In terms of university teaching, challenging lectures are combined with advanced seminars and interactive small group formats. Individual specialisation is encouraged.

Special features regarding the international orientation

A German-Polish and a German-Romanian degree course are integrated into the BA with a double degree. Here, selected students spend the practical phase and a theory semester in Poland or Romania. This international phase is promoted and is prepared for in detail with language courses and excursions. Students are closely supervised during their stay abroad. Through various international collaborations, other phases abroad are possible. The integration of Brandenburg University of Technology into the university alliance EUNICE is a new feature.

Special features regarding the equipment

Digital teaching is accompanied by technically and didactically qualified personnel in the E-learning Department who are familiar with the application-oriented teaching of Social Work. A video recording room enables the creation of video-based teaching/learning scenarios as well as video-based data collection for various methods of qualitative social research.

Special features regarding research activities

The predominantly application-oriented research of the subject areas is devoted to issues such as social inequality, social work in peripheral areas, challenges of structural change processes, political and social participation, promotion of democracy and prevention of nationalism, exclusion and inclusion processes, biography and life situations.

Other special features

The institute includes a subject area explicitly dedicated to the socio-ecological challenges of social work. Diversity and expertise on East German life are cross-cutting themes across all subject areas.
