Special features regarding teaching

New forms of teaching that are based on teamwork: The team project is a form of teaching where the students work on a specific, practice-related and/or research-related task in supervised groups. At least one team project in the course, and more team projects are possible; links to practice and closeness to research work by means of subject-specific "team projects" in each area of Business Informatics and Computer Science, with sample topics: design and development of ERP modules, recommendation engines, search engines or Data Mining functions, and analyses of social networks and customer preferences.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department offers two dual-degree programmes. In the Bachelor area there is a double degree programme with FDIBA at TU Sofia (Bulgaria) and TDU (Turkey). Students can take modules that are identical to those offered by the department. For the Master’s, there is a dual-degree programme with the institute SIIHT in Thailand. Furthermore, the department has a specific position for Coordinator of International Study.

Special features regarding the equipment

Faculty of Computer Science with many modern laboratories (including the Business Informatics chairs); exercises with SAP are supervised by certified staff; direct access to the offering of the SAP University Competence Centre; Own faculty building; Modern lecture halls and seminar rooms. VR glasses, simulation, 3D printer and scanner.

Special features regarding research activities

Areas of specialisation in Business Informatics: Very Large Business Applications, Business Intelligence, Information Systems for Management. Involvement of the students thanks to the following: Industrial networking, promotion of theses in cooperation with companies.

Support for founders

The department supports interested parties in the start-up of businesses, and also supports the TUGZ at the university in this work. Apart from this, there is also a start-up school that provides a modern training programme and which helps you with the following: To identify and evaluate business ideas, gain access to the start-up scene and obtain assistance with the application for state and federal grant programmes. Further support by the SAP Big Data Innovation Centre. Students also have the option of taking a specialisation in the field of web start-ups.

Other special features

The largest SAP University Competence Centre (SAP UCC) in the world is at the Faculty of Computer Science at the OVGU and is the basis for research and development on business applications; student participation through team projects. SAP certificates
