Special features regarding teaching

Integration of research and teaching in all courses, thereby acquiring a broad and well-founded basic training at the beginning of the course with individual profile formation in higher semesters. Strongly oriented towards practice and the labour market through close cooperation with companies and strong regional network. Strong international focus, interdisciplinary approach and many options to choose from. Extensive quality management in studies and teaching (joint process of further development between teaching staff and students). Competence development through key skills (in modules and subject areas).

Special features regarding the international orientation

The focus is on English-language courses and stays at renowned partner universities in Europe, Asia and North and Latin America. The number and excellence of international students and teachers are growing continuously. Professors and staff complete programmes for the development of international competencies (lecturer mobility, Admins Go Global, etc.). Internationalisation is enshrined in the department's strategy and supported by the Vice-Dean for international affairs and a separate International Office.

Computer rooms with the latest computers, learning software and projectors; language centre with two multimedia labs; latest media technology in the lecture theatres, as well as for recording and for transmitting to other lecture theatres; Platform with excellent Bachelor's degree lectures; Seminar rooms with projectors; Electronic exam registration; Studon learning platform, videoconferencing equipment.

Special features regarding research activities

The Department of Economics at the Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is one of the strongest research departments in Germany. In a comparison of scientific publications, the number of doctorates and the volume of acquired third-party funds, it is ranked in the leading group. Empirical orientation of a large part of the research projects, practised interdisciplinarity and close cooperation with strong practical partners and research institutes contribute significantly to the success.

Support for founders

Students, staff and professors who wish to start a business are given comprehensive advice by the Start-up Office at the wtt (knowledge and technology transfer) contact point. The contact point also helps with matters related to start-up funding and offers support with applications for university-specific funding programmes for founders. Courses of the department help to prepare students specifically for a future career as entrepreneurs. The ZOLLHOF as a digital business incubator represents the central hub for digital founders from science and business since the end of 2016.

Other special features

The faculty is committed to continuously improving teaching, research and campus management in the spirit of sustainable development. Important fields of action include research on sustainability-relevant topics, responsible thinking & action as goals of teaching, energy and resource consumption, as well as healthy working and study conditions. Furthermore, the "Task Force Diversity" has created an extensive catalogue of measures that are currently being implemented. In addition, a "Code of Conduct on Religious and Philosophical Diversity" has been adopted.
