Special features regarding teaching

Integration of research and teaching in all courses, thereby acquiring a broad and well-founded basic training at the beginning of the course with individual profile formation in higher semesters. High level of practical and job market orientation through close cooperation with companies and strong regional networking, strong international orientation, inter-disciplinarity and wide range of options, extensive QM in study courses and teaching (joint further development between lecturers and students), competence development through key qualifications (in modules or areas)

Special features regarding the international orientation

The focus is on English-language courses and stays at renowned partner universities in Europe, Asia and North and Latin America. The number and excellence of international students and teachers are growing continuously. Professors and staff complete programmes for the development of international competencies (teachers' mobility, Admins Go Global, etc.). Internationalisation is enshrined in the department's strategy and supported by the Vice-Dean for international affairs and a separate International Office.

Computer rooms with the latest PCs, educational software and projectors; language centre with two multimedia laboratories; state-of-the-art media technology in the lecture halls as well as to transfer and record lectures to other lecture halls; platform with recorded Bachelor lectures; seminar rooms with projectors; electronic registration for exams; Studon learning platform, video conference systems.

Special features regarding research activities

The Department of Economics at the Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is one of the strongest research departments in Germany. In a comparison of scientific publications, the number of doctorates and the volume of acquired third-party funds, it is ranked in the leading group. Empirical orientation of a large part of the research projects, practised interdisciplinarity and close cooperation with strong practical partners and research institutes contribute significantly to the success.

Support for founders

Students, employees or professors who want to start a company receive comprehensive advice from the start-up office at the contact point wtt. The contact point also helps with matters related to start-up funding and offers support with applications for university-specific funding programmes for founders. Courses in the department prepare students specifically for an entrepreneurial start-up career. The ZOLLHOF as a digital business incubator represents the central hub for digital founders from science and business since the end of 2016.
