Special features regarding teaching

A variety of teaching methods such as lectures, exercises, practicals, laboratories, simulation games and supervised project work are used in the degree courses to enable students to acquire skills in a wide variety of ways. Teaching is also strongly research-oriented. Numerous research activities and different types of courses organised jointly with partners from industry ensure practice-oriented training. UA Ruhr students can also attend courses at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Extensive personal advice provided by the faculty and by the International department for study periods or internships abroad; Courses taken abroad are recognised; A wide range of exchange programmes for study periods or internships abroad; "Internationalization at Home"International and intercultural activities and encounters on campus; Students and graduates are prepared and trained for work in international contexts; UA Ruhr liaison office in New York, Moscow and Sao Paulo

Special features regarding the equipment

Students at the mechanical engineering faculty have access to several hundred workplaces around the campus. Students like to study in the central library with its over 1,300 workplaces and demand-oriented opening hours from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (including on the weekends). The mechanical engineering faculty also has a variety of software and hardware tools, including many production machines, test benches and measuring instruments.

Close cooperation with the following institutions: Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, Institute for Robot Research at the TU Dortmund, Dortmunder Initiative zur rechnerintegrierten Fertigung e.V., Institute for Work Physiology at the TU Dortmund; Multiple special research areas and transregios
