Special features regarding teaching

High degree of practical relevance thanks to lecturers from business/industry; Courses are taught in small groups; Direct contact with lecturers; A semester abroad or a practice semester is integrated into all the Bachelor's degree courses; There are ongoing projects with companies as well as cross-border projects conducted with other European universities.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The international focus is of central importance to the Faculty of Business. It is excellently placed in this regard thanks to a large number of cooperation agreements for semesters abroad. The department offers various Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, some of which have an international focus. These include, in particular, the Bachelor's degree courses "International Business" and "International Business Management", which have English-language elements. In the Master's programme, there are degree courses entirely in English (EuroMPM, International Management & International FACT).

Special features regarding the equipment

All lecture theatres and seminar rooms are equipped with PC technology, digital projectors and overhead projectors. In addition, interactive displays are available and there is even the possibility of duplicated projection from a room size of 60 students. Flip charts and multiplan screens are provided in all rooms. All seminar rooms and PC clusters are fitted with permanently installed computers and projectors and have a daylight projector as well as electronic whiteboards. There are 5 PC rooms with a total of 95 PCs and 190 seats as well as 3 PC rooms for all faculties with approx. 50 PCs and 100 seats.

Special features regarding research activities

In addition to a number of third-party funded projects, one special feature is the participation in the research institute IDiAL, the Institute for the Digital Transformation of Application and Living Domains at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Support for founders

“Semester in self-employment" as an option during studies, instead of a practice semester/semester abroad. Close supervision by two professors. At the faculty’s business event, students also have the opportunity to talk to the start-up team and the Career Service of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Some courses (e.g. management projects) are aimed at business start-ups, i.e. to show students the way by developing ideas and business plans. In this way, students are given the tools for a successful business start-up.

Other special features

Comprehensive support for students with organisational questions through the course management. Digitalisation: Comprehensive integration of digital elements into the study programmes of the Faculty of Economics. The increasing digitalisation of the commercial business sector is taken into account in the curriculum: In several modules, students not only learn the essential basics of business IT, but also learn how to use databases and specific business software. Project orientation: Diverse projects in all degree courses of the faculty.
