Description

Description

The Chair of Visual Analytics at the University of Rostock focuses on the interactive visualization and visual analysis of abstract and spatial data. We employ the latest technologies and continuously expand them, including:

  • VR/AR/MR, for example, in the field of Immersive Analytics,
  • AI (such as LLMs) for Smart Visual Interfaces and Narrative Visualization, and
  • GPU and cloud computing for the visualization of large datasets

Our research activities encompass both fundamental research and various application areas, such as biology, medicine, climate research, or marine ecology. We combine well-founded theoretical approaches with practical applications to generate a broad spectrum of scientific insights and real solutions.

As part of the Institute for Visual & Analytic Computing, we offer a friendly, helpful, team-oriented, and inclusive working environment with a highly motivated faculty. Furthermore, we have an extensive international network that provides opportunities for research collaborations and stays abroad.

Currently, we are looking for several new team members at the PhD student level:

  • 2 x Research Assistant Visual Analytics (PhD student, fully financed, 3 years, option of a 3-year extension):

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with interest in data visualization. You should have a background in visualization, human-computer interaction, and/or computer graphics and very good programming skills. You will conduct research on novel visualization methods with considerable freedom on the specific topic and support teaching at the Chair of Visual Analytics, primarily in the Master’s program “Visual and Intelligent Systems” (solid German needed). Current research projects are related to visual storytelling and immersive analytics in medical contexts.
